The Story
Summer’s home transformation shows the impact of community support for a family in need. Just before the holidays in 2025, Sunshine on a Ranney Day completed her dream bedroom and fully accessible bathroom, creating a space that is both beautiful and life-changing for Summer and her mom.
Designed by Lindsay Ellington of Randall-Paulson Architects, the renovation was made possible by generous donors. Special thanks to Eric and Kara Brown of Lead Coverage, who contributed on behalf of their clients, Speedway Children’s Charities and the Kirby Smart Family Foundation, and to our amazing SOARD community, who brought this project to life. Their support, along with that of many others, transformed not just a home but the family’s daily life.
Summer lives with epilepsy, mixed cerebral palsy, a swallowing disorder, and significant muscle tone challenges, making daily tasks difficult and painful. Her mother, Shanon, is her full-time caregiver. As Summer has grown, the physical demands of lifting, bathing, diapering, and feeding her have led to ongoing injuries for Shanon and concern for maintaining safe care.
With the renovation complete, Summer now has an accessible bathroom that supports safety and dignity, making routines easier and less taxing. Her new bedroom reflects her joyful spirit—a place to rest, play, and be herself. For Shanon, the changes bring relief and peace of mind, knowing Summer is safer in a more supportive setting.
Every detail of Summer’s bedroom was designed around what she loves. Soft pink tones, artistic elements inspired by her creativity, and cozy features for relaxing and watching her favorite show, Spirit, create a warm space. Subtle horse touches add personality, making the room truly hers.
This project was made possible by an incredible network of partners. They continue to go above and beyond to support SOARD families. Their generosity and craftsmanship ensure each space is beautiful and built to provide lasting support. We are deeply grateful to Construction Resources, Randall Brothers, Cambria, MSI, Sherwin-Williams, Pella, Echols, Lee Hainer, Pulley & Associates, TKO, Service Wise, Bin There Dump That, Niki Murphy, iFrame Media, Carmen Mari Photography, and Nothing Bundt Cakes for their contributions.
Thanks to this teamwork, Summer has a space that supports her needs, celebrates her, and makes life safer and more manageable for her family.
