Who We Are

Sunshine on a Ranney Day was founded in early 2012 by Peter and Holly Ranney after being inspired by a church sermon to use their resources to help others. The first makeover was completed in July 2012 for a child named Mathew.

Founder's Story

Background on how Sunshine on a Ranney Day began.

Founder's Story

In 2012, inspired by a church sermon, Peter and Holly Ranney found their calling to use their God-given talents and resources to help others. Sunshine on a Ranney Day was created with the idea that every child should have their own unique space. Sunshine on a Ranney Day's first makeover was completed for 11-year-old Mathew, who wanted to spend his last days in his military-themed bunker bedroom. Mathew's makeover and passing showed how impactful a makeover could be on a child's life. This experience helped shape Sunshine on a Ranney Day into what it is today.

Naming

Our charity and store have distinct names. Using the correct name in the right context is essential for clarity and legal compliance.

Sunshine on a Ranney Day

Official Charity Name

This is the full, legal name of the 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. It must be used in all fundraising materials, tax receipts, grant applications, legal documents, and donor communications.

When to Use

Fundraising campaigns, donation pages, press releases, official correspondence, event sponsorship materials, and anywhere the organization is referenced in a legal or financial context.

Sunny & Ranney

Store / Merchandise Name

This is the name of our retail store and merchandise brand. It is a friendly, shortened name used for commerce and lifestyle branding — not for fundraising.

When to Use

Product packaging, store signage, merchandise tags, social media posts about products, and the online shop. Never use "Sunny & Ranney" on fundraising or donation materials.

Founder Names

Peter Ranney

Always use Peter Ranney — never "Pete" or "Pete Ranney." While friends and family may use the nickname, all official materials, press references, and brand communications must use his full first name.

Holly Ranney

Always use Holly Ranney. When referencing both founders together, write Peter and Holly Ranney.

Key rule: All fundraising must use the full charity name — Sunshine on a Ranney Day. The store name Sunny & Ranney should never appear on donation receipts, fundraising appeals, or grant applications. Our 501(c)(3) tax-exempt status is registered under Sunshine on a Ranney Day — soliciting donations under any other name could create legal and regulatory issues.
