🙂 14 years old 💛 Rare genetic disease
Photo of Remi & Nico

Remi and Nico are two incredible sisters born with rare genetic mutations that have left them non-ambulatory and unable to communicate verbally. They rely entirely on their parents for daily care, yet they each express themselves in meaningful ways that those who know them understand and cherish.

Their parents, Tiffany and Patrick, have devoted their lives to caring for their daughters and remain steadfast advocates for their needs, both now and in the years ahead. As the girls grow into teenagers and young adults, their care needs continue to evolve.

Both Remi and Nico are tall, with beautiful long hair that requires careful attention. An accessible, thoughtfully designed bathroom is essential to allow Tiffany to safely and comfortably bathe them and care for their hair as they continue to grow.

Because his bedroom and bathroom are not wheelchair accessible, Axel is unable to move independently within those spaces. As a result, he must sleep in his parents' room, separated from his twin brother, Angelo, something that limits both his independence and their ability to simply be kids together.

Despite these challenges, Axel is a bright and spirited pre-teen. He loves to sing, spin joyfully in his wheelchair, which he skillfully controls with his head, and watch HGTV. (He'll quickly tell you he has strong opinions about good design!)
